Wow! I can't believe I am writing this...Miss Emery Grace is FIVE MONTHS OLD! She's practically a toddler. Well, not really, but it sure does feel like it! Can someone please slow down time?!?!
I feel like every age so far has been my favorite. Except for the newborn phase which was very overwhelming for me! I look at Emery now and it's like she's grown right out of the baby stage and looks like a real person. God has truly blessed us with a happy, healthy, and just plain adorable baby. When I am with her, I think a lot about that. About how I really didn't do anything to deserve her. I think about women who would be amazing mothers if they could only get pregnant, and I realize that I am no better than they would be at it. But for some reason, God has chosen us to be Emery's parents. We get to snuggle with her, listen to her giggles, comfort her when she's in pain, wipe away her tears, and support her in every way. If we are super lucky, we will get to send her off to college (with a full scholarship, I hope!), walk her down the aisle, and be there the day she is blessed with her own children. Wow, what an amazing gift and enormous responsibility! Which brings me to my next topic...
I have officially (most likely temporarily) resigned from my teaching position. I love teaching, and I know that I will miss it. Being in the classroom has been such a great experience that I will treasure forever. I just have the overwhelming desire to be with Emery right now. To see her crawl for the first time, take her first steps, and all of the other milestones that she will soon have. I know that some people may question my decision. I have definitely received mixed responses. I also know that teaching has a fairly parent-friendly schedule. But when I got home from work at the end of the day, I had three hours at most before she went to bed. Just enough time to feed her, play with her, fix a quick dinner, bathe her, and put her to bed. It just wasn't enough for me. I can't get this time back. I can always find a job or make more money, but I can't go back in time to catch up on what I missed. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no problem with people having careers and children. I understand everyone has different viewpoints, and I know there are many benefits to having a two income family. I most certainly don't think my choice is better than another. I just feel it's the better choice for me, right now. I do plan on working part time to have some income (and maintain my sanity!). Which brings me to my third topic...
My friend and I have started an embroidery business! We wanted a way to earn extra income that would not have to be full time. We are starting with baby items and will hopefully grow from there. I am super excited about it! We have been working very hard to get things up and running. Part of the time I bring Emery with me, and part of the time she is at an in-home day care. That has worked out great as well because I know day care has many benefits, and I really want her to be around other children. Our business is called MOM Creations. I'm sure you can guess why we chose that name. We even have a website, which is still in the tweaking phase so please be kind when critiquing it! It is www.mom-creations.com. Take a look and let me know what you think!
That's all for now. I'm pretty sure you weren't expecting me to write a novel! I will post soon with Emery's five month update.

ReplyDeleteGood for you and your decision to stay at home with Emery. You are right...you can never get that time back. I chose to leave my job and stay at home with my boys and never regretted it for one minute. Now I am a stay at home J-Ma and love every minute that I get to spend with Briley and love that I can help out Brandon and Katie.
ReplyDeleteI loved the burp cloths - and everyone at the baby shower loved them too! I wish you and Katie the best of luck with MOM Creations and I will be ordering more things in the future.
